About the Position

Wentworth Learning Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, and creative Summer Student to support our summer childcare/day camp program. This position offers valuable hands-on experience working with children ages 4 to 12 in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

The successful candidate will work alongside our team of Early Childhood Educators and assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of programs and activities within our school-age classroom and day camp setting.

This role is ideal for a student interested in childcare, education, recreation, youth programming, or community services.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Day Camp Assistant will assist with the daily operations of the day camp program, including:

  • Assisting with planning, organizing, and implementing activities for children ages 4–12
  • Supporting snack and meal preparation
  • Updating paperwork and maintaining classroom supplies
  • Collaborating with staff to supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of all children
  • Guiding and assisting children with daily routines and transitions
  • Engaging children in activities that support physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development
  • Assisting with the development of STEM-focused activities and short educational lessons based on children’s interests
  • Helping to plan and implement community events, including an open house and end-of-summer barbecue
  • Assisting with light housekeeping duties, including maintaining clean classrooms and play areas

  • Be able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Have basic digital and computer skills
  • Previous experience working with children is considered an asset
