Wage (based on ECE Wage Scale): $28.18 – $35.40 per hour.

Education: Early Childhood Education Degree or Diploma required

About Us:

Wentworth Learning Centre Childcare is a licensed and provincially regulated childcare centre located in the heart of rural Wentworth. Operating as a division of the Wentworth Learning Centre, a small community-led non-profit, our childcare centre is dedicated to providing educational opportunities and programming for the advancement of life-long learning to the Wentworth community and surrounding rural areas. 

As part of our mission to expand learning opportunities within the community, our centre is growing to include 41 new childcare spaces. To help manage this expansion, we are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and hardworking individual to join our team on a full-time basis as assistant director – based in our new facility once complete.

Our centre prides itself on providing a rich, inclusive learning environment to introduce children to diverse experiences and opportunities, while embracing the individuals’ and communities’ uniqueness.The successful candidate will work within our existing team to support the development of our 3 new classrooms – which will have a focus on infant and toddler students. This candidate will also be responsible for staff management and family communication while acting in accordance with our mission to provide all children with a quality, safe, and nurturing environment that embraces each child for who they are today and who they will become tomorrow.

A successful candidate would: 

  • Possess the ability to develop and implement childcare programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children aged 6 months to 5 years;
  • Understand the importance of maintaining an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children;
  • Maintain enrolment expectations through on-going communication with all families;
  • Work effectively independently and in a small team;
  • Motivate staff through personal example regarding client relations, centre cleanliness, program development, classroom leadership, health and staff relations;
  • Accurately perform administrative tasks, including daily and weekly reports, in a timely manner with strong attention to detail. 
  • Possess the ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Attend semi-annual staff meetings to discuss progress and problems in the classroom;
  • Remain up-to-date on all relevant qualifications.
  • Ensure all legislative requirements are met with 100% compliance.

Daily Tasks:

  • Work with the centre’s Executive Director and Childcare Director to ensure the centre is ready for business with all necessary supplies and equipment such as arts and crafts, large furnishings, cleaning supplies, office equipment and children’s toys.
  • Assist the Childcare Director with staff hiring, onboarding and scheduling duties.
  • Work collaboratively with other ECE’s, Centre staff, students and volunteers in a team environment;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Childcare Director.

Qualifications: 

  • A degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education;
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working with infants in a regulated childcare setting;
  • Previous experience working in a leadership or supervisory role;
  • Thorough knowledge of provincial childcare regulations including all relevant legislation policies and procedures;
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS word, Excel and E-mail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

A valid criminal record check, RCMP vulnerable sector check, child abuse registry check and First Aid certification are mandatory.
